Today we're rolling out A9Today version 2.0 across all platforms. It's the biggest release in over a year and brings significant improvements to login speed, battery use, and offline reliability.
What's new
Login is 60% faster
We rewrote the authentication flow to use a single round-trip to the verification server instead of three. Cold-start login now completes in 1.2 seconds on average, down from 3.0 seconds.
Battery use cut nearly in half
The biggest contributor to battery drain in v1 was background WebSocket reconnection. v2 uses smart backoff — when your phone is idle, the connection check happens every 5 minutes instead of every 30 seconds. Active use is unaffected.
Better offline behavior
If your network drops mid-session, v2 keeps your view intact and shows a small banner explaining the connection issue. When connection returns, everything resumes without requiring you to log in again.
Smaller installer
The Android APK is now 18 MB (down from 28 MB). The iOS profile and H5 web bundle are similarly smaller.
How to update
| Platform | How to update |
|---|---|
| Android | Open A9Today — you'll see an update prompt. Tap Update. |
| iOS | Visit a9playmy8.com and reinstall the configuration profile. Your account data is preserved. |
| Huawei | Same as Android — open the app, tap Update when prompted. |
| H5 (web) | Just refresh your browser — you're already on v2. |
What's next
v2 is the foundation for several features we're shipping over the next two months:
- In-app language switching (today, switching languages reloads the app)
- Dark mode for users who prefer it
- Tablet-optimized layouts for iPad and large Android tablets
- An expanded notification system with finer control over what alerts you see
If you encounter any issues with v2, please report them through the in-app feedback option or the support form on a9playmy8.com. We watch incoming reports closely during the first week of any major release.
